The Wonderful City in the midst of the unique landscape of Guanabara Bay, with Serra do Mar mountain range in the background is a postcard that shows our country to foreigners from all continents.

Writing about Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain), Corcovado, where the famous statue of the Christ the Redeemer is, Arcos da Lapa (Arches of Lapa), the Botanical Garden and so many other attractions is redundant in such a well-known and admired landscape.

Plus, it has one of the largest urban forests in the world, the Tijuca National Park, with Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest) species replanted by Emperor Pedro II, a busy port, and all those beaches!

Remembering the importance of the former capital of Brazil, with its museums and palaces, is reliving the history of our country. Going to Petrópolis is taking a look at imperial life, walking its paths is breathing its imposing air under the sun of today.

Rio is perhaps the urbanized area with the greatest contrasts on our map. The beautiful and the ugly coexist between the organized and the anarchic, feasible and unfeasible, cultured and popular, happy and sad, an icon of beauty and poverty, the synthesis of a nation.

Environmental impact and cost, ethics, citizenship, sustainable development and progress are themes that catch the eye and lead the traveler to reflect on the occupation of these lands since Colonial Brazil, with its inconsistencies and conflicts.

UGGI goes to Rio to observe and learn through its environmental, political, critical and admiring eyes.
